Information on voting
Our Area. Our Choice. Our Candidate.
vote o'neill no 1
WHY VOTE ?
In America last year, the people spoke and elected Barrack Obama the President of America. To me, the greatest thing to take from this was not just that anyone of any race or background could become President of the most powerful country in the world... it was that one person could make a difference. Their vote counted.
It's far too easy to sit back in such challenging times and feel bad because of some of the disastrous decisions of the political parties recently. Often doing that can be justified. But what is also easy is using your right to vote as a means of saying something to the powers that be. Great communities require great involvement, cooperation and communication.
When the date arrives, I am asking for a few minutes of your time. I am asking you to give me your vote because I will ned it to give the people of Dundrum a real say in the community. So on June 5th, please come out and help.
WHY VOTE FOR ME ?
Independent can be defined as 'unbiased, impartial, neutral individual with sole loyalty to their community'
Party can be defined as 'social event where people come together, spend money and lunge about, having fun with each other. Many people are not invited.'
I am an independent candidate. As such I have no developers to satisfy or special interest groups to keep happy. I have no party members to impress or party politics to worry about. Instead, I am free to hear from real people and focus on what are the most important areas of our community.
Over the course of the next few weeks, I am excited to have the opportunity to meet up with you and discuss the issues that you feel are the most important. I believe in being straight, honest, open and calling things as I see them. I am looking for you to help me, not just by voting for me and encouraging others to do so but also in letting me know what matters to you. I want to be your representative. That means I am representing you.
WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU ?
Instead of simply telling you my politics using the standard political jargon, let me tell you what kind of community I wish to live in.
Can you imagine a community where the elderly and children of our area are looked after and cared for in a safe and friendly enviroment, where we all have a voice and the County Council actually take on board feedback and suggestions from the ordinary people living in the area, where councillors are focused on planning a better future, where they care about what actually happens over the next ten years and beyond and not just winning a seat for their party.
Well, that is the kind of community I wish to live in. If you feel the same then I earnestly ask for your vote as your local independent candidate in the forthcoming local election.
